The 10th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) for documentary, short and animation films kicked off last Sunday (Feb 3rd) at the NCPA in Mumbai. Information and Broadcasting minister, Shri. Priya Ranjan Das Munshi, inaugurated the festival which started with a screening of films from South Africa, Canada and the US. Around 37 countries including Australia, China, Egypt, Finland, Indonesia, Israel, Nepal New Zealand, Pakistan, Spain and Britain have sent in their entries for MIFF 2008. The duration of the short films and documentaries vary from three minutes to more than 90 minutes. The MIFF will also showcase films from South Africa, some Oscar winning classics, films from North Eastern states of India and films produced by the Films Division of India. Besides these, biographical shorts made on movie maestros like Ingmar Bergman, Satyajit Ray, Bimal Roy, Naushad Ali, K.L. Saigal, Nargis Dutt and Smita Patil have also been included in the film memoirs package. There are also a lot of prizes to the best films in various categories like documentary, animation and short films.
