National award winning director Madhur Bhandarkar has announced the launch of his forthcoming film 'Jail', which will lend a ringside view of the world behind the bars.
The film, starring Neil Nitin Mukesh, grandson of late legendary singer Mukesh, will go on floors from October this year and is scheduled for release on May 1, 2009, Bhandarkar said at a press conference yesterday. 'Jail' is a thriller based on undertrials and as the name suggests, it is the baseline of the film, he said.
"I don't think a prison story like 'Jail' has been attempted so far in Hindi cinema. I always want to go into genres that are new and unexplored. But, there were too many practical problems... Now I have completely revamped the film. I have been mulling over the subject since the time I made 'Chandni Bar'," he added. Elaborating on the movie he said, 'Jail' is a hard- hitting yet sensitive tale of an ordinary man called Parag Dixit (played by Neil Nitin Mukesh), who finds himself in the prison due to a series of unfortunate incidents around him. "The entire film is from his point of view. It tells stories of several other inmates including undertrials, convicts and also cops, who are in charge of maintaining order in the prison," the director said. To a question on whether the film was based on any real life incident, Bhandarkar said portrayal of jails in films are always larger than life. "I will try to be realistic. The story will be a combination of facts and fiction," he added. (Agencies) ... read more »
